Principal’s welcome

Ayr State High School is the largest and most popular school in the Burdekin area. Located in Ayr, 88 kilometres south-east of Townsville the school has provided quality education to the northern Burdekin region since 1932.

The school caters for Senior Secondary students from Years 10, 11, 12 and Junior Secondary from Years 7, 8 and 9.  Each academic cohort is educated by dedicated specialist teachers to enhance curriculum exposure and rigor in a wide variety of subject areas. The school is therefore able to offer all the benefits of a large school (broad range of subject choice and co-curricular activities) while enjoying the advantages of a small school (close personal relationships between teachers and students).

As an organisation we are focused on achieving our mission statement “The community of Ayr State High School exists to prepare all of its members for tomorrow’s society as responsible, informed and valued citizens”.

We are focused on transitioning students from primary school through to further studies and or employment by providing individual case management of students through academic, career, social and emotional development.

Through our Vision Statement we are focused on becoming a “national leader in education. Our school embraces the unique values of its community, inspires creative and contemporary learners and provides opportunities for success and excellence for all.”  This will be achieved by providing high quality facilities, sophisticated ICT network, and willingness to embrace innovation and change, and, above all, highly educated and dedicated staff.

Ayr State High School values,

  • Honesty and integrity,
  • Excellence and Perseverance
  • Sense of community and quality relationships,
  • Equity and diversity
  • The Ayr State High School values are embodied in the Learner Code:
    • Safe
    • Respect
    • Personal Best

Essential to our success is the wider school community. We are ready to form a productive partnership with students and parents to together provide the best opportunities for all of our students. We have many more examples of success and information to share with you about our great school and we ask that you take up the challenge of becoming fully informed about the offerings our school can provide for all students.

State Education means a diverse and quality education for every student.

Yours in education
