Ayr State High services the Burdekin
district which is one of the richest sugar producing areas in Queensland. We have approximately 500 students across
Years 7 to 12. Our students come to us
from our partner schools which include East Ayr State School, Ayr State School,
Airville State School, Brandon State School, Clare State School, Giru State
School, Jarvisfield State School, Kalamia State School, Maidavale State School and
Millaroo State School. This variety of
partnership schools provides Ayr State High School with a rich diversity of
students with a variety of interests and abilities.
Established in 1937, Ayr State High School is proudly
part of Queensland’s State School System which provides opportunities for all
to excel, regardless of personal circumstance. As a proud state school we believe that partnerships
both within and outside the Burdekin provide a network of support that brings a
vibrancy to the school experience.

Our experienced and dedicated staff

Ayr State High School is committed
to the rigorous and explicit delivery of the Australian Curriculum across
Junior Secondary and an extensive range of Authority, Authority Registered
(Study Area Specifications and TAFE/VET) subjects for students in the Senior
Secondary phase of learning.
In Junior Secondary we focus on the
foundation skills in literacy and numeracy whist extending students’ academic
abilities. In Senior Secondary we are
focused transitioning all students into an 'Earning or Learning' pathway by
successfully preparing them for future employment or tertiary studies in
alignment with their individual career plans. We offer a fully staffed Special Education
Program that supports verified students with disability to achieve success
through an inclusive secondary schooling experience that meets the needs of the
individual.
We also have a strong tradition of
offering a wide range of co-curricular activities including
musicals, drama festival, concert and jazz bands, choir, Interact Club,
industry placements, district and regional sports, Young Diplomats Program,
National and international Science forums,
Rostrum Voice of Youth public speaking and a range of extension programs
in English, Mathematics and Science.
Complementing our rigorous academic
curriculum, Ayr State High School’s student support and wellbeing programs help
students develop personally and socially. The cornerstone of our student support
programs is a strengths-based approach to personal development focused on
developing a growth mindset and emotional resilience.
The
school climate is positive and students are encouraged to develop
self–discipline and self-management. The
