Absent:  Natasha Embrey

On Friday 9 June, three Year 10 students and four Year 9 students attended the student planning day for the Young Diplomat Program run by JCU.  Besides learning about what the program entails, they heard stories and advice from last year’s winners.  The Year 10 students will be supported by the Year 9 students when they have to research their chosen country in relation to that year’s diplomatic theme.  On the Day of Diplomacy in August, the Year 10 team need to present their group speech and participate in two rounds of negotiations like diplomats with other students who are also representing their country.  The Year 9 students will attend the day to support the Year 10 students.  At the end of the day, one speaker from each country needs to sum up their position on the issue and the outcomes of their negotiations.  The winning school and two other winning individual speakers get to go to Canberra in October to tour DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) as well as meeting officials at Parliament House and visiting other political and social attractions our capital city has to offer.  A prize worth winning indeed!!!  Good luck to this year’s team and we hope they win!
