U19 Rugby League WINNERS

U19 Rugby League Team
There was a buzz of excitement with the Netball and Rugby League Grand Finals being held at Ayr State High School this week (Tuesday 20 March).  Players, staff and spectators filled the MPS and oval to watch with Ayr High competing in the U15 and U19 Rugby League finals.  There was a good atmosphere with proud players, parents and staff, and our mascot, Hurricane, supporting our teams.  It was an excellent showcase of our students (and BCHS and HHSHS) and our school in the Ayr community.
Ayr High was represented in two of the three divisions of Rugby League (U15 and U19) with expectations high against cross town rivals BCHS.  The U15’s got off to a great start with an excellent display of attack but lacking substitutions, they ran out of legs in the second half, finishing with only nine players on the field due to injury, going down 10-24.  Big efforts in the U15’s were Nawarie Tom, Dominic Augostis, Brayden Arroita, Sam VaeVae Pare and JD Wilkins.  The U19 boys were ruthless in attack and defence, to win 20-14.  Ayr High led the entire match but were tested at times with BCHS coming back in the second half to keep the game close.  Special mentions to Riley Horan (chased 60 m to run down a BCHS player who was destined to score), Dion Papadimitriou and Ethan Bell ran hard in the forwards, Ryan Kastner and Leroy Brown who scored two tries out on the wing.
Congratulations to all students who represented Ayr High in Netball and Rugby League this Term, your school and community is proud of your efforts!!!
