Brain cancer. It’s a disease that affects thousands of Australians each year. It is the disease that a well-known member of our Burdekin community, Laurence Pavone, has been diagnosed with. Despite its widespread impact on so many people, the cure for this type of cancer is yet to be discovered. To raise awareness of brain cancer and much needed funds for research into its cure, Laurence along with his family, created the foundation "Laurie’s Love".
As a year level, the Year 8 students saw an opportunity to support this great cause. The students fundraised by selling merchandise at a stall and had a free dress day to bring awareness around brain cancer. Ayr State High School was also very fortunate to have Laurence attend our school assembly and share his inspiring story. He also interacted with staff and students whilst painting hearts, the logo of the foundation, on their faces. Through our fundraising efforts, we were able to raise $900. This is an amazing effort! Congratulations to the Year 8 students and thank you to our school community for coming together and supporting a great cause. Remember, "the infinite love is the cure".
