Interact - "World's Greatest Shave"

Mr Kevin Lee, Cassienne Darwen, Mr Rod Williams, Mr Brandon Cotter and at front, Robert Olsen and Brody Butler
Last week saw the great shave at Ayr State High School for the World’s Greatest Shave.  On Wednesday, 30 July 2014, students Cassienne Darwen, Brody Butler and Robert Olsen shaved their locks for the Leukaemia Foundation. Staff members Mr Rod Williams, Mr Kevin Lee and Mr Brandon Cotter (a last minute volunteer) also went bald for the cause.  In the lead-up to this event, the Interact Club held a street stall and a trivia night to raise monies for this event.
One of the highlights of the day was the Amazing Leg Waxing Race where several grade 12 boys (Robert Olsen, Luke Buono, Harry Miller, Travis Mogg, Bailey Walsh, Blake Hollywood) and Mr Whittred and Chappy threw their (very) hairy legs into the ring to raise more money for the Leukaemia Foundation. Aaron Hatfield and Travis Mogg also demonstrated in front of the whole school just what was involved in the leg waxing on Assembly the day before the race.  It was surely their reaction that prompted such interest in the activities of the day and lead to such outstanding support from our school community.
The day was lots of fun and many laughs were had!  Louisa Calvert attended on the day representing the Leukaemia Foundation.  She gave a short speech on the importance of raising funds for the Foundation and how those funds were spent.  She was very impressed with the involvement of the school body supporting “The World’s Greatest Shave” at our school.
To date, we have banked just under $3,000.00 for Ayr High’s contribution to the World’s Greatest Shave – a fantastic result for our school.  The support and generosity was something to be proud of.
