Cook Champions 2015

2015 Interhouse Athletics Carnival Age Champions
The Interhouse Athletics Carnival was held over four days of competition with the main carnival on Friday 24 July.  The week started with the running of the 3000m on Monday and the 1500m on Wednesday, with high participation in both events.  Spirit day on Wednesday was fun and colourful with student’s dressed in house colours/themes and the traditional skits performed.  The field events were held mid-day Thursday, with a strong competitive spirit across the houses.  The stage was now set for the track and standard events at Friday’s Carnival.
The day started with plenty of passion shown with the war-cries.  Throughout the day, Banks led the charge with their enthusiasm, passion and support for team-mates taking out the spirit stick.  As the carnival progressed it was clear one house stood out from the pack with Cook taking a stranglehold on first position.  Phillip and Macquarie battled it out for second and third place with Banks falling away from the pack as the lead at the top grew greater.  Cook’s dominance was evident again winning for the seventh straight year.  Phillip battled hard to maintain second place with Macquarie succumbing to third place and Banks languishing in fourth place.  The final scores were Cook - 2429, Phillip - 2217, Macquarie - 2128, Banks - 1765.
With the introduction of the U12 age-group, all winners of their events are now new record holders.  There were seven existing records broken over the carnival.  Congratulations to the following students - Declan Dowson (U13 1500m, 3000m); Daniel Ballin (U14 Javelin); Sharni Wight (U15 3000m & 800m); Noeleen Vaevae Pare (U16 Shot Put); U16 Girls Macquarie Relay Team (Tamika Murdock, Tayla Escriva, Solehl Heron, Blaise Heron); and U16 Boys Phillip Relay Team (Joel Mason, Nate Roxburgh, Adam Barbagallo, Abraham Heron).  Congratulations must go to the age champions who delivered outstanding performances, particularly Kayce Castle (U14) who won the “Individual Athletics Champion” trophy which recognizes the highest points scorer of the Carnival.  Kayce finished with 125 points.  Special mention to Majella Monday (U15), who again finished second overall (as she did in 2013 and 2014) with 117 points and Bryce Horan (U12) finishing with an impressive 114 points.
A squad will be selected from this carnival and will compete at the Burdekin Interschool Athletics Carnival on Friday 21 August at Home Hill State High School.
